Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

From 1st October 2024, a restructuring of the institutes within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will take effect. The faculty will now be represented by two institutes: the Institute of Materials, Technologies, and Mechanics (IWTM) and the Institute of Engineering of Products and Systems (IEPS).

At the same time, the newly elected Dean, Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Katterfeld, and the Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daniel Juhre, will assume office. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering would like to express its gratitude to Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Thorsten Halle for his terms as Dean and Vice Dean since 2016.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is the oldest and one of the largest disciplines at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. It offers a diverse range of study programmes and a broad research profile, which includes the design, construction, and manufacturing of machines, apparatuses, and plants, logistics and material flow technology, the development, processing, and testing of novel materials, factory planning and management, as well as safety engineering and ergonomics. Founded in 1993, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering combines the former faculties of Production Engineering, General Mechanical Engineering, and Thermal Mechanical Engineering.

Leadership and Administration

The Dean's Office represents the leadership level of the faculty. The Dean's Administration handles administrative tasks for the faculty.

Organisation and Structure

The Faculty Council is an elected body and the highest authority of the faculty.
